The World Health Organization estimates that, in the developing world, there are 40 million amputees, and only 5% of them have access to any form of prosthetic care. Originally, The Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation intended to design a functional prosthetic hand for children injured by land mines. Over time, this changed to a design for a low-cost, light, durable, and functional prosthetic hand to help anyone who needed yet could not afford available alternatives.
The activity empowers every participant in just a few hours to make a real and lasting contribution and, in doing so, remind people what it feels like to be engaged in a truly purposeful activity. Using their heads, hands and hearts, your group will leave a lasting impression for a better world by donating hands for amputees in more than 80 countries.
Be part of the Helping Hands experience with your in-person teams. Suited for any group size and working in teams of three to four people, your participants will build prosthetic hands that will change the lives of amputees in developing countries. Join us for this experience as we learn about the cause, make an impact, and connect over a fun activity!
We work alongside the world's best nonprofits and manage every aspect of the volunteer experience. We deliver impact and create memories for years to come.
